Project Title: Film Club

Project Goal: Students will have fun discussing the assigned films, expressing their thoughts and critiques creatively in our Film Club. They will explore how to think and write analytically about how particular elements of the films interact and the effects of techniques unique to the medium. Students will also produce a storyboard and script for a short film by the end of the camp. Their final projects will draw on past conversations and films, and these projects will be critiqued by their classmates.
Area: Film Analysis, Group Discussion, Creative Writing

Grade Groups: 
Grades 7-12 
Grade 6 can join too if you love films! 


Project Unit: There will be two units. 
   Unit 1: Animation Films (8 sessions)
   Unit 2: Live-Action Films (8 sessions) 
Meeting twice a week 
Class length: 90min 

Teacher Bio: Mr. Jonny has taught diverse students personalized reading and writing classes as well as worked as an editor and writer for some online magazines and newspaper. Currently he's working towards his M.A degree in Creative Writing at Univ. Of Mass, Boston and teaching his literary analysis and writing units at QUESTABOX.

Cinema is a great way to trace history and cultures that are not our own. I'm looking forward to developing a shared film language with my students, a language built on diversity and equality. Hope to see you soon! 
Unit Period & Theme: 
 
Unit 1: Animated Film (focus: shifts in technology and content)
Unit 2: Live-Action Film (focus: unique and shared cultural practices across countries)
 ** Film choice is subject to change before or during the camp depending on the students groups.

Class Time: Twice a week, Eight 90-min sessions, TBD

Computer 
Access to google gocs and media player for films 
Access to Roku or comparable streaming service (optional but helpful!)

  • After signing up for the project, your will be receiving a confirmation email. 
    • Class Size: 6-7 kids 
    • Absence & Make-up Policy: No make up for the absent online classes. No refund for the absent online classes. 
    • Cancellation & Refund Policy:
      - If you cancel before the April 30, you will get a full refund.
  • Request for a refund must be received in writing. The summer project application fee (non-refundable $50) will be excluded from the refund.
    - If you cancel after April 30, there will be no refund. 
    - No adjustment of fees if a student is withdrawn during the summer program.
    - No refund and no make-up for the absent or late classes.
    - No adjustment of fees if a student is dismissed for conduct prejudicial to the discipline and/or good name of our organization.
